Ben Ross, Harriet Tubman's brother had hoped to marry Jane Kane but her enslaver would not allow for it. Ben arranged for Jane to join him when he and his brothers fled during the Christmas holidays in 1854. Jane disguised in men's clothing to successfully flee.
