Washington Monument and Mount Vernon Place
The first monument to Washington in the United States. Begun in 1815, and 178’ 8” tall, the marble column forms the centerpiece of the four park squares of Mount Vernon Place, a National Historic Landmark District.
Monument: Thur, 5-9pm; Fri, 12N-4pm; Sat-Sun, 10am-5pm; Park Squares: Daily, dawn-dusk.

Only reason I'm reviewing is because i almost made a mistake. Was staying in the Inner Harbor and thought mt vernon was far away, unsafe, and who knows what else. Go up there! It's awesome. Great...

The monument is surrounded by cobblestone streets and parks on all four sides. The statue of Lafayette is on the south side which is near as is the old church to the northeast corner.

Nice side trip. I would have loved to climb the tower, but Wife was wearing heels, so not climb for us. Amazing during this era the builders got a 12 ton statue over 14 stories up. Wear sneakers or...
