The first monument to Washington in the United States. Begun in 1815, and 178’ 8” tall, the marble column forms the centerpiece of the four park squares of Mount Vernon Place, a National Historic Landmark District.
Monument: Thur, 5-9pm; Fri, 12N-4pm; Sat-Sun, 10am-5pm; Park Squares: Daily, dawn-dusk.

This is a pleasant little area, but it doesn't really rise to the level of a destination. We were at the Peabody Library nearby and checked this out. They want $6 per person to climb the tower...

Only reason I'm reviewing is because i almost made a mistake. Was staying in the Inner Harbor and thought mt vernon was far away, unsafe, and who knows what else. Go up there! It's awesome. Great...

The monument is surrounded by cobblestone streets and parks on all four sides. The statue of Lafayette is on the south side which is near as is the old church to the northeast corner.
