The first monument to Washington in the United States. Begun in 1815, and 178’ 8” tall, the marble column forms the centerpiece of the four park squares of Mount Vernon Place, a National Historic Landmark District.
Monument: Thur, 5-9pm; Fri, 12N-4pm; Sat-Sun, 10am-5pm; Park Squares: Daily, dawn-dusk.

We enjoyed walking around Mt. Vernon as it was a nice early spring evening and we had left Vermont in a snow storm. One caution: Beware of the dog do on the sidewalks!
