Site of July 9, 1864 Civil War battle dubbed "The Battle that Saved Washington." Confederate Gen. Jubal A. Early defeated Union forces commanded by Gen. Lew Wallace who later wrote Ben Hur.

I spent a few hours at this Battlefield and really enjoyed learning about the history that was made here. You can always learn about American history by traveling to these National Park sites.
