South Mountain Battlefield State Park

Designated as a state battlefield, the park encompasses the three gaps of South Mountain (Crampton's, Fox's and Turner's) that were the scene of the September 14, 1862 battle just days before the Battle of Antietam.

For history buffs

The South Mountain site is extensive so be prepared to walk a bit. There are a lot more trees now so it is difficult to get a sense of the battle. It provides an enjoyable walk, however.
