In Maryland’s westernmost region, the mountainous Garrett County plays host to countless ways to enjoy winter.

Day 1 – Wisp Resort
Family skiing at the Wisp Resort.

Your visit to Garrett County would be incomplete without checking out Wisp Resort, Maryland’s only ski resort. The resort offers winter activities for all skill and interest levels, so it’s easy to spend the day hitting the slopes, snowtubing, riding the Mountain Coaster and refueling at various slopeside cafes and restaurants.

If slow and steady is more your speed, try cross-country skiing or snowshoeing at New Germany State Park or Herrington Manor State Park.

For dinner, Brewery and the Beast will warm up your crew with mouthwatering BBQ dishes and local craft brews.

Stay the night at the Lake Pointe Inn, a luxurious hotel perched at the edge of the serene and expansive Deep Creek Lake.

Wake up to fresh scones and coffee at Canoe on the Run, then head to JTF Ice Rink to enjoy family-friendly outdoor ice skating. From there, grab lunch at Cornucopia Café for tasteful American fare and a warm ambiance.

Then bundle up and sit back in the comfort and charm of a horse-drawn carriage. Circle R Ranch will take you across the snowy countryside on an open sleigh ride as you snuggle up under provided blankets and take in the wintery scenery.

Enjoy elevated, scratch-made French cuisine for dinner at the Deer Park Inn, and then head upstairs for a restful night’s sleep in this restored Victorian mansion.
