Visit Baltimore

Maryland boasts a rich, multicultural history, whether in its capital, largest city, small town, or along the Chesapeake Bay. On this three-day guide, be prepared to be amazed by the natural beauty, local lore, and of course scrumptious seafood of the Old Line State.

1
Day 1: Annapolis
United States Naval Academy Plebes in formation

Spend your morning discovering maritime history at the Naval Academy. Enjoy a waterfront lunch at Pusser’s Caribbean Grille, or a taste of the sea at O’Brien’s Oyster Bar & Seafood Tavern. Wearing comfortable shoes, take a walking tour of historical houses, including the William Paca House, Chase Lloyd House, and James Brice House. If you’re itching to get on the water, why not join a sailing cruise, such as the Schooner Woodwind Annapolis Sailing Cruises? Stay waterfront for an elegant seafood dinner at Chart House or Carrol’s Creek Café. Then rest up at the beautiful Annapolis Waterfront Hotel, Flag House Inn, or Georgian House Bed & Breakfast.

2
Day 2: Baltimore
Three women walking along the Inner Harbor in Baltimore

Soak up the multicultural history of Baltimore, starting with a 3.2-mile heritage walking tour of the Baltimore National Heritage Area, including the Inner Harbor and Harbor East, Little Italy, Fells Point, and historic Charles Street  . Enjoy lunch at Vaccaro’s, a Baltimore favorite since 1956, for authentic Sicilian paninis, cannoli, and rum cake. Then jump aboard the USS Constellation, the last sail-only warship designed and built by the U.S. Navy. Craving crabs? Head downtown to Phillips Seafood, or head east to waterfront Captain James Landing, built to resemble a merchant vessel. Sleep in style at Hotel Revival, the elegant Ivy Hotel, or continue the history journey at a B&B such as the stately Madison House, or the 1840s Carrollton Inn.

3
Day 3: Westminster/
Uniontown
Downtown Main Street in Westminster

Spend the morning on a self-guided walking tour through Westminster Main Street to experience a small but significant moment in the Civil War. Learn how Corbit’s Charge, also known as the Battle of Westminster, contributed to the defeat of the Confederate army at Gettysburg. For refreshments, be sure to stop by Baugher’s Farm Market for hand-dipped ice cream, cakes, cookies, and pies. Only 15 minutes away, take in American rural culture at Union Mills Homestead on a tour of the Shriver family’s blacksmith shop, main house, and functioning grist mill. After a long day, relax at Antrim 1844 Country House Hotel, at the base of the Catoctin Mountains, for gorgeous accommodations and fine dining at their Smokehouse Restaurant.
