When you really want to treat your dog to something special, or hang out with other dog owners who love their pooch as much as you do, there’s no better place to take Fido than to a furry, family-fun outdoor event. Here’s a list of some favorite competitions, parades, and festivals that your dog will just drool over. Best of all, every one of these events benefit local animal shelters.
1 March for the Animals
Join the Maryland SPCA for a 1.5-mile walk-a-thon in Baltimore’s Druid Hill Park in April. Costumes are encouraged for pets and owners alike.
2 Puppy Plunge
The SPCA of Anne Arundel County hosts its annual Puppy Plunge event at the scenic Camp Letts in Edgewater in August. Owners and their four-legged friends are encouraged to participate in fun activities, including the “plunge” into the Rhode River, dog bikini contest, and puppy pie-eating contest.
3 Wine & Wag Happy Hours
Happy Hour is even happier with man’s best friend. Head to Baltimore and join the Maryland SPCA in June for off-leash play, bobbing for hot dogs, paw painting, beer and wine (humans only) and complimentary hors d’oeuvres.
4 Pooch Palooza
A canine community event, Berlin’s Pooch Palooza in October offers dog lovers and leashed pooches a day full of fun to support the Worcester County Humane Society. Activities include Delmarva Dock Dogs, a cover model search, tennis ball lottery, and Pooch Palooza costume contest.
5 K9’s in the Vines
