When you really want to treat your dog to something special, or hang out with other dog owners who love their pooch as much as you do, there’s no better place to take Fido than to a furry, family-fun outdoor event. Here’s a list of some favorite competitions, parades, and festivals that your dog will just drool over. Best of all, every one of these events benefit local animal shelters. 

March for the Animals in Baltimore

1 March for the Animals

Join the Maryland SPCA for a 1.5-mile walk-a-thon in Baltimore’s Druid Hill Park in April. Costumes are encouraged for pets and owners alike.

Puppy Plunge in Annapolis

2 Puppy Plunge

The SPCA of Anne Arundel County hosts its annual Puppy Plunge event at the scenic Camp Letts in Edgewater in August. Owners and their four-legged friends are encouraged to participate in fun activities, including the “plunge” into the Rhode River, dog bikini contest, and puppy pie-eating contest.

Wine & Wag in Baltimore

3 Wine & Wag Happy Hours

Happy Hour is even happier with man’s best friend. Head to Baltimore and join the Maryland SPCA in June for off-leash play, bobbing for hot dogs, paw painting, beer and wine (humans only) and complimentary hors d’oeuvres. 

Pooch Palooza in Ocean City

4 Pooch Palooza

A canine community event, Berlin’s Pooch Palooza in October offers dog lovers and leashed pooches a day full of fun to support the Worcester County Humane Society. Activities include Delmarva Dock Dogs, a cover model search, tennis ball lottery, and Pooch Palooza costume contest.

K9s in the Vines in Mount Airy

5 K9’s in the Vines

Linganore Winecellars hosts this annual event in August at Mt. Airy to benefit the Animal Welfare League of Frederick County. You and your four-legged family members will enjoy an afternoon of great local wines, music, food, pet demonstrations and games. 

DogFest in Baltimore

6 DogFest Featuring Paws on Parade Walkathon

Join the Baltimore Humane Society in Reisterstown in September for a one-mile or 1.6-mile trail walk with your furry family member at the organization’s beautiful 365-acre wildlife sanctuary. Then, participate in dog-friendly contests and games. Enjoy demonstrations and a shelter dog showcase. 

Bark in the Park

7 Bark in the Park

This October event in Easton features a dog show, 5K fun run, dog trick tent, food, music, crafts, and other vendors to benefit Talbot Humane.
