Set Annual Goals: Starwood has goals for reductions and we are required to be endorsed by state-based green programs. List of our environmentally friendly products and services: We are actively purchasing EnergyStar, water-efficient, and green cleaning products. Waste Reduction We use the following best management practices: Have a plan in place to reduce property waste Track overall waste bills and established baseline data for quantity of wastes produced Guest Rooms Use real coffee mugs and no polystyrene products Instruct housekeeping to save and reuse unopened items Kitchen and Prep / Dining / Catering / Meetings and Events / Campground Snack Bar Purchase locally grown produce and other foods Restrooms Use bulk soap dispensers in public restrooms Purchase recycled-content paper towels and toilet paper Registration / Office Make 2-sided copies / printed materials and avoid making extra copies Buildings and Grounds Use green cleaning chemicals Dispense cleaning agents in bulk to reduce quantities used Perform preventative maintenance on all appliances, HVAC systems, plumbing and vehicles Recycling We have recycling cans in the lobby, meeting rooms, and in the vending areas. Recycle Grease We use the following best management practices: Store the grease and have it picked up by a rendering company Filter the grease to prolong its life Green Events We use the following best management practices: Support event planners who want to hold green events Include information on Green Events / Weddings / Meetings / Conferences in our marketing materials Train all event planner staff on green event techniques Other Green Practices Transportation: We use the following best management practices: Addressing Efficient Business Travel-We provide public transit information in our conference - meeting sales materials Measurable Results Using the standards provided by the AHLA Green Guide: (1) By replacing all incandescent lights with CFL’s in all 706 rooms, we have reduced energy consumption by approximately 335,000 kWHs/year with an estimated energy savings of $40,000. (2) By installing low-flow showerheads and restrictors in all rooms, we are saving at least 2.5 million gallons of water each year and more than $80,000/year in reduced water and energy bills (for heating the water). (3) Through our "Make a Green Choice" program, our optional linen service that provides incentives for guests to opt our of room service, for our 706 room hotel, we are reducing water usage by at least 100,000 gals/year, reducing detergent use by at least 750 gallons/year and saving at least $35,000/year on reduced water, detergent, and labor costs.
