From hometown teams to national sporting events, the Maryland sports scene is packed with options for spectators. Enjoy pro and big-time college football Major and Minor League baseball, horse racing, motocross, hoops, Lacrosse—the official team sport of Maryland, and even roller derby!

Baseball Paradise: From the Baltimore Orioles to Great Minor League Teams

Baseball fans can watch the Major League Baseball Baltimore Orioles play at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, considered by many the best ballpark in the bigs, or cheer on one of the state’s six minor league teams: the Aberdeen Ironbirds, the Bowie Baysox, the Frederick Keys, Salisbury’s Delmarva Shorebirds, the Hagerstown Suns or Waldorf’s Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

NFL Football in Maryland

For football fans, there are two places to catch an NFL game: M&T Bank Stadium hosts the Baltimore Ravens and their legions of purple-clad fans, while Washington, D.C. fans can see their team play in red and gold glory at the FedEx Field in Landover. College fans can enjoy the Big 10 action with the Maryland Terrapins, root for the Midshipmen of the Naval Academy, or cheer on the perennial Colonial Athletic League powerhouse Towson Tigers.  Or for something a little different, how about a little love for the ladies of the Baltimore Burn?  They play a summer season, their home field is Patterson Park in Baltimore, and they play full-contact football at $12 a seat-a bargain!

Horse Racing at Pimlico Race Course, Laurel Park and More

Horse racing enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Preakness Stakes, the second jewel of the storied Triple Crown. The Preakness has been held at Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course each May since 1873. The Jim McKay Maryland Million Day, held annually each October at Laurel Park, brings together the best Maryland-sired Thoroughbreds with a big payday on the line. Bring the kids to the “Kid’s Korral” and enjoy on-track entertainment between races. Both tracks host races throughout the season as well as near-daily simulcasts. Finally, steeplechase enthusiasts can take in a race at one of the numerous cup events held around the state each spring, including Maryland Hunt Cup, held in April at Worthington Valley.

Live Your Hoop Dreams

Enjoy the thrilling Big Ten action of Maryland Terrapins basketball. Marvel at the high flying action of the men's team, or catch a Lady Terps game, assuming they’re not off bringing home another NCAA title. Navy, Loyola, Coppin, Towson and Morgan State also bring top notch Division 1 hoops to the hardwood.

Lacrosse, Soccer and Other Sports

Other choices include watching a Chesapeake Bayhawks Major League Lacrosse game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis; seeing the Baltimore Blast play professional indoor soccer at the Baltimore Arena; cheering on runners at the Baltimore Running Festival; and attending a Charm City Roller Girls roller derby game at the Du Burns Arena in Baltimore. For fans of college sports, options abound thanks to the nine local colleges and universities playing NCAA Division I sports, including the University of Maryland Terrapins.
