BALTIMORE (December 8, 2008) -   With a variety of activities, historic attractions and natural resources all within a short drive, Maryland is the perfect place to explore and the 2009 Calendar of Events features more than 800 fairs, festivals and special events to experience along the way. Taking a stroll through Maryland’s quaint towns, visiting one of the many museums or historical landmarks, or relaxing along the waterways of the Chesapeake Bay are just a few ways to enjoy all Maryland has to offer.

“With travelers staying closer to home, the Maryland Calendar of Events is not only a great resource for major festivals and events across the state, it also helps you discover hidden charms and special attractions in your own backyard,” said Secretary David Edgerley. “I invite you to use this calendar to plan your outings in Maryland in the coming year.”

This year, Celebrate 375! is the featured theme which commemorates the  375 years since the founding of historic St. Mary’s City and the beginning of the Maryland colony. There will be a host of events throughout the year including festivals, concerts, historical tours, cultural demonstrations and much more to celebrate the states 375th birthday.
