Very dissatisfied - we relocated elsewhere
Oct 22, 2014 by: JWinChicago from Chicago, Illinois
Our family has patronized Best Western hotels for over fifty years. This was not the experience we have become accustomed to when we stay at a Best Western. Specifically, 1. Hallway had a musty smell. I got the feeling that the staff was trying unsuccessfully to cover up the smell of cigarettes from an adjacent wing with huge applications of air freshener 2. Room was poorly lit, even --- or especially --- the vanity. 3. The bathroom (toilet plus bathtub --- vanity was separate) was so small you practically had to step outside of it in order to use it. 4. Bathroom doorknob was broken. 5. There was mold on the ceiling where the bathtub and wall meet. 6. There was a hole in the wall within the vanity covered with only wallpaper. 7. The refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker were all being powered through the use of a single extension cord, which looked like a fire hazard if it wasn't downright illegal. 8. And the room appears to have not been updated since the beginning ‘70’s. We had planned on staying several nights, but we voted with our pocketbook and relocated to another hotel after two nights.
Nice Hotel, good location

Our King room was very large and comfortable. Easy access to downtown as well as the highway. Even though it is close to the highway, we couldn't hear any highway noise. The only complaint is the room smelled "musty" and the bathroom, which had the toilet and bathtub, was small. I didn't say anything to the staff about the smell, as we weren't in the room much except to sleep, but spraying the room with Lysol helped greatly.

I don't think I had ever stayed in a Best Western before but it was chosen by the group I traveled with. It was a gem! It was beautiful, clean, comfortable and had everything I enjoy in a hotel room: comfortable beds, lots of pillows, good WiFi, coffeemaker, fridge, microwave, etc. I would definitely stay there again.
Near I-70, but hard to find

Unfortunately we didn't have a AAA guide for Maryland with us, so we looking for the right exit in Frederick was frustrating. Most of the motels are located off I-270. By the time we found this hotel, we were too tired to pay much attention to anything other than turning out the lights.

The staff was great, the room old style but clean...but the hall is very smokey....we got the smell on our clothes just walking out the door....the gym is very very tiny and only 1 treadmill worked. The breakfast has no oatmeal or lower fat carb options, no bananas. ..corn flakes are not healthy....however sleep quality is good. Lots of towels. 5 min from historic district and so easy and quick to get there. Taxi ride $8 to go out at night
