Nothing to be Excited About
Mar 06, 2014 by: SheddVA from Arlington, Virginia
My girlfriend and I recently visited Linganore Winecellars during the Antietam Highlands Wine Trail weekend. The service was extremely slow from the moment we arrived. All of the tasting bars were backed up as one server per station attempted to pour samples for multiple groups. 16 wine samples and several chocolates were provided as part of the Wine Trail tasting. Only two wines caught our attention, the Bacioni red and the Red Skins red. Many of the wines were sweet or were non-grape fruit based wines. Although all the wines were reasonably priced, most being between $11 and $17 per bottle, nothing at Linganore would prompt a return visit.
Better than expected

We stopped in while exploring the Frederick Winetrail. Better than expected. We had heard that they only carried sweet wines. Not the case. Had some respectable dry wine as well.
Oh the Wine

Attended the Reggae wine fest. It was off the hook. They said it was one of the largest crowds ever. The wine was so tasty. We had a bottle of each wine. My favorite is the Chessie and the Steeple Chase. The Peach and Strawberry was great and the blackberry. Everyone must experience a wine tasting. So glad I went and had a great time.

Beautiful scenery, gracious staff and sweet tasting wine. We asked for a tour of the facilities as family plan to marry their in 2014. We were lucky to have Tommy for our guide and he did a great job of showing us the vineyards, different areas for pictures and rooms used for events. Tommy educated us on the different types of wines during a wine tasting which resulted in us buying a couple of bottles named; Indulgence, Skip Jack and Steeple Chase. Tasty!!! If you like sweet wines you will love this experience.
Satisfying tasting experience

One of the best overall tasting experiences I've had anywhere, a bargain at $5. While the wines aren't always top quality, there is a wide variety offered for tasting: 16 samples. The person who served us was very knowledgable and delightfully helpful. She was the definite highlight of this visit. The brief winery tour was disappointing in that our tour guide was not audible during much of her presentation. Tour guides need to be taught how to project their voices properly. The grounds are quite attractive, and were hosting a wedding reception on the day we visited.
