Wildfowl art is in the limelight, April 24-26 at the Ocean
City Convention Center. Annual Ward
World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition and Art Festival features decorative works
of art and functional hunting decoys – carved by 800
of the world’s best. More than 120 exhibitors offer fine
art items, folk art, jewelry, sporting goods and carving supplies.

Bring the kids to Rose Hill Manor Park in Frederick County for the
Farm
Museum Family Festival, April 25-26. Hayrides, kids’ tractor
pulls, music and crafts. Exhibits at the museum – carpentry
shop, broom shop, family kitchen and others – depict the region’s
agricultural heritage. Rose Hill Manor is in the National Register
of Historic Places. |

Get a running start into spring. Adkins Arboretum – a 400-acre
public garden in Caroline County that is dedicated to regional
native plants – hosts its Arbor
Day Run and Family Fun Run,
April 18. Same day on the other side of Maryland, Adventure Sports
Center International in Garrett County stages Teva
Tax Day 5K.The Center – atop Marsh Mountain,
minutes from Deep Creek Lake – opens that weekend. |

Gems – Two festivals, two Shore towns
Celebrate the return of the American shad to the Nanticoke River
at the 14th annual Nanticoke
River Shad Festival, April 25 on the
waterfront in Vienna. Drive to Chestertown the next day for the second
annual Taste
of Chestertown, April 26. Chocolate macaroons, hot dogs,
turkey mole, crab bisque and scallop tacos are some of the items
that Chestertown’s restaurants offer in this competition. |

War days in Maryland
Immerse yourself in sights and sounds of the Civil War at Fort McHenry’s Battle
Cry of Freedom weekend, April 18-19. Dress parade, Union encampment,
artillery demonstrations, fife and drum music, and Saturday-night candlelight
tour. Also, learn about the war’s impact on the state at Maryland
and the Civil War, A Regional Perspective at Carroll Community

Lady’s Manor Steeplechase
