- Parade of Gold: Starting at 3:00 p.m., the parade will go through Towson, MD, beginning at the intersection of York Road and Burke Avenue, continuing down York Road and through the Rodgers Forge neighborhood where Michael grew up and where his mother, Debbie, still resides.
- Star-Spangled Salute to Michael Phelps: Phelps and the Maryland Olympians will be honored with an event to remember at Fort McHenry in Baltimore City. At 7:00 p.m., members of the public are encouraged to be a part of the celebration, full of music, fireworks, and a Star Spangled Salute to Maryland’s own Michael Phelps.
Fort McHenry events planned for Oct 4:
The Visitor Center and historic Star Fort at Fort McHenry will be open from 8am to 5pm for all visitors. The Fort includes exhibits and living history displays.
The visitor center includes a theater with a free movie, gift shop, restrooms, and general information. There will also be a chance to meet Francis Scott Key, who will be visiting the Fort all day.
Demonstrations at the Water Battery, 1-5pm: See how Baltimore and Fort McHenry were defended from British attack in September 1814. Ranger talks and cannon firings.
Flag Talks, 1-5pm: Be part of holding a full-scale replica of the Star-Spangled Banner - 42 by 30 feet! Learn about the unique American flag
(15 stars and 15 stripes) that inspired our national anthem.
Fife and Drum and Fort McHenry Guard, after 5pm: Historic music and living history soldiers join the celebration.
Michael Phelps plans to take a well deserved break before settling into his home in Baltimore.
