HARRIET TUBMAN UNDERGROUND RAILROAD
Maryland prepares for the centennial commemoration of the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman in March 2013, the 100th anniversary of Tubman’s passing.
The Tubman projects currently in progress are:
- The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway – This 125-mile driving tour across Dorchester and Caroline Counties will continue on through Delaware and feature a number of interpreted wayside pull-offs, which will showcase significant Tubman and Underground Railroad stories and events.
- The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park – Located near the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, this park will be a major attraction and orientation point along the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway. Slated to open in 2014, the park will feature a visitor center with interactive exhibits, trails, a pavilion and Tubman memorial
