Skipjack Race and Festival

Each Labor Day weekend for the last 40 plus years, this island community has hosted the annual Deal Island Skipjack races.  In addition to the skipjack races, this two day festival includes a crab skiff race, fishing contest, swimming contest, boat docking contest, a parade, amusement rides, arts and crafts booths, and food.  The festival takes place at Deal Island Harbor.  Bring a lawn chair and watch the race from the beach.  The race takes place a ways off shore, so bring to binoculars to see the action.  You can also launch kayaks from the sandy beach and paddle out for a closer view of the race.

Skipjack Bike Tour Deal Island
September 12
The second annual Skipjack Bike Tour takes place Saturday, Sept 12 at 7:30am. With 15, 30 and 75 mile rides through some of the most beautiful wildlife, harbors and marshlands of the Eastern Shore the tour is an exciting adventure for all involved. All riders get tshirts, with 3 rest tops, EMS available, Sag Wagon and unforgettable brownies. Helmets are required. New this year, an authentic Skipjack "The Katherine" will be at the harbor and Captain Stony Whitelock will be giving tours and short sails out on theTangier Sound. Proceeds from all sails go to the Deal Island/Chance Volunteer Fire Company. Registration is $30 before August 31 and $40 after.
