Someone once counted 200 distinct neighborhoods in Baltimore - among them the maritime community of Fells Point, Little Italy and fashionable Mount Vernon Place. The popular neighborhood of Federal Hill was named for a huge celebration the residents held in honor of the ratification of the federal Constitution. The cannon on the hill overlooking the Inner Harbor is a reminder of the Civil War, when federal troops seized the railroads and occupied Baltimore and Annapolis to keep Maryland in the Union and to prevent Washington, D.C., from being surrounded by Confederate states.
The Babe Ruth Birthplace and Official Orioles Museum
Baltimore is famous for baseball. Baltimore is also the hometown of one of baseball's greatest legends. This museum is dedicated to commemorating baseball. One portion of the museum features the great player Babe Ruth. Here, visitors have the opportunity to view some of Ruth's memorabilia: Ruth's original catcher's mitt from St. Mary's Industrial School, a bat he used during the 1927 season, and a scorecard from his first professional game are just a few of the items on display. Baltimore Maritime Museum
Located at the National Historic Seaport of Baltimore, the main attraction of the Baltimore Maritime Museum consists of three historic vessels. The first is the United States Coast Guard Cutter Roger B. Taney, veteran of WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and subsequent duty as a drug enforcement vessel. The second is the USS Torsk, a WWII submarine that saw action during the Lebanon Crisis of 1960 and helped enforce the blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Rounding out the museums collection is the Lightship Chesapeake, which served to make the Chesapeake Bay safe for sailors in ill weather. From a simple tour to entertain the casual sailing buff to the small library and extensive photo collection for the serious maritime historian, there is enough history packed into these three historic vessels to keep anyone intrigued.

Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum
The Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum, is situated within the original house where Poe lived. Built in the 1830's, Poe resided in this house for two to three years. At the threat of becoming demolished in 1941, The Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore restored the home, and converted it into a museum dedicated to the great poet. The museum is unique in that it not only gives visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the literary world of Poe, but it also highlights Baltimore's past.

National Aquarium in Baltimore
The National Aquarium provides a fun and educational visit for all! The National Great Blacks in Wax Museum
Visit the first and largest wax museum dedicated solely to black heritage. View full-sized wax replicas of figures in historical settings and attire that depict the trials, tribulations, achievements and contributions of Africans and African-Americans throughout history. There are many intriguing and thought provoking scenes from early American history illustrated. Included are scenes showing a full-scale ship similar to those used to transport Africans to the New World as slaves and scenes depicting later years in the segregated South. Some of the more noted "residents" of the museum include Dr. Charles Drew, Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks, and General Colin Powell.

Oriole Park at Camden Yards
The stadium's unique 1920s design provides its visitors with the classic charm of baseball. A complete 75-minute tour of the facilities is available and departs regularly from the baseball store located near the stadium. Unless they are bought ahead of time, getting tickets for seated sections can be difficult. So make sure to buy your tickets in advance. However, if you don't have tickets and would still like to attend a game, 200 bleacher seats and 400 standing room only tickets go on sale two hours before the game. The park features a souvenir shop, a cafeteria, lounge, restaurant, and a bar. Historically Baltimore has been a city known for the excitement of its baseball games. So, while in Baltimore take the family out to see a game, or take a tour of the Orioles Hall of Fame.
